A new section to make books more accessible by making them easier to find!

The Antigo Public Library Parenting Section

The new “Parenting Resources” section of the Antigo Public Library is a “parenting resource” by location code. Utilizing this system we have been able to group fiction and non-fiction together allowing children and parents to find the books they want more readily.

Each section is demarcated by a sticker color. This color is there to allow for APL staff to be able to “pull” books for transport to another library to fill a patron’s hold request, as well as for shelving books.

Within each section, all bodies, all families, all traditions, all feelings are represented side by side according to the call number. The purpose is not to segregate or censor. The purpose is increased accessibility by making all of the books that represent the diversity of being a person together.

Some books make some individuals uncomfortable. And every person deserves to find a book in the library that they feel reflect themselves or their family or traditions.

We ask for your patience. It will take time for us to update all the books and get them onto the shelves.
